My first quilt

With my first quilt nearing completion I decided I wanted a place to post pictures and information about my various projects so I got Jesse to help me get my blog up and running again. I wish I had taken pictures of my quilt all along so I could put up each step of the process but I didn’t think of taking any until close to the end when I realized that I was soon going to have to send it off into the world.

Before I ever made a quilt I assumed it would be really difficult because anything that pretty has to be hard to make. Turns out I was wrong it’s actually quite easy although very time consuming. The great thing about quilting is that all you’re really doing is sewing scraps of material together. There’s absolutely no need to buy material at a fabric store! Both of my quilts are made entirely from material from old cloths etc. found at the Salvation Army (by Jesse’s grandmother who kindly taught me how to quilt and let me raid her fabric cupboard) and my own old clothes.

I learned a lot making this quilt and if I were to do a baby quilt again I would definetly pick my materials more carefully so that it could be machine washed. Because of the materials I used it’s more decorative then functional since the last thing new parents want to be doing is hand wash their baby blankets. I also learned that my cat thinks that I quilt solely to provide her with a place to sleep.

img_50921I’m also currently working on a crazy quilt that I’ve been making for two years now. I think it might have been a bit overly ambitious for a first project but I am enjoying making it and I think it will be beautiful when it’s done. Soon I’ll get around to posting some pictures of it still in progress.
